Open Source – 2018 First Shenzhen Biennale of Art

In the afternoon of May 11th, “Open Source – 2018 First Shenzhen Biennale of Art” was opened at the Shenzhen Luohu Art Museum. The exhibition was hosted by the Propaganda Department of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee, supported by the Shenzhen City Administration Bureau. The exhibition was co-organized by the Cultural and Sports Bureau of Luohu District.

The exhibition takes Luohu Art Museum as the core landmark, creating two exhibition areas inside and outside the museum. It is fully open to the public, allowing global contemporary art to interact with Shenzhen citizens. The exhibition will continue until July 29.

The Biennale includes Chen Wenling, David Cerny, Maurizio Donzelli, Dai Ying, Fang Lijun, Yohan Han, and Huang Cheng from home and abroad and local from Shenzhen. , Huang Yulong, Ke Ming, Liang Meiping, Arnd Christian Muller, Yan Xiaochun, Pang Hailong, Su Xinping, Laura Renna, Shen Yuji, Wu Junyong, Xu Yuer, Zeng Jianyong, Zhong Wei + Yan Yonghong Twenty-one contemporary artists participated in the exhibition and presented 20 large-scale indoor and outdoor art installations. Most of these works were special works created specifically for Shen Duan.

This year coincides with the “40th Anniversary of China’s Reform and Opening-up”.

At the opening ceremony, He Jing, the founder said that Shenzhen is the open source of China, and every public is an open source contributor and producer. Contemporary art is a reconstructing the art of “Shenzhen is a modern city famous for its reforms and famous for its openness. Openness is always one of the most prominent urban spirits in Shenzhen. The Open Source Biennial aims to bring art and public life closer together. Let every citizen have the opportunity to participate in the construction of urban culture and share the fruits of culture.”

The joint curators of the Biennale, Tang Zehui, and Fang Miner, believe that adopting “open source” as the theme of the first deep-minded pair not only conforms to Shenzhen’s urban temperament yet also represents a new artistic creation attitude and production method. It focuses on sharing, interaction, and co-creation.

Presenting the world’s most pioneering contemporary art in public art galleries, they openly embrace the public, influence the public, and bring contemporary art into the daily life of ordinary citizens.
