The State Council of China has decided to extend the Spring Festival holiday in order to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus-related pneumonia, which has infected over 2,000 people in China and killed 56.
The holiday, which originally ends on January 30, will be extended to February 2, the State Council said in a statement released on Sunday.
The opening day for all schools, set to be February 17, will also be postponed. These include universities, colleges, primary and secondary schools, as well as kindergartens.
The detailed date of the opening day will be announced by the education authorities.
